A depth-data-driven brand experience
Afterthoughts
This project was issued as a supplement to an identity _refresh_. Yet it resulted in being the identity in all of its forms by gleaning from moments of the geometry’s behavior. We wanted the identity to exist as a conduit of the hardware’s capabilities. The line system acts as a texture with potential energy. Applying a user input results in a form that visualizes the kinetic energy of that input. The dampening or resonance of the kinetic form as it phases to its original form softens the otherwise noisy result of the distortion from the input’s velocity.

Softkinetic’s tagline is “The Interface is You.” It made a lot of sense to stay true to that statement.
This has been one of my most successful executions at Method. It was a perfect blend of creativity and technology. From this work, various new tools have been born for the company to exploit. One of which my mind cycles over: particles. How can these be used for more UX outcomes? I am looking forward to exploring how hardware accelerated objects could enrich UX in the future.
I mentioned briefly in the preface that this exploration redefined the creative approach to the brand. This is because math needed to inform a visual outcome. The dynamic behavior of the geometry became the design system which could not have been discovered without physics simulation. In the Design world, we’re used to creative informing tech in a “waterfall” approach. A lot of people would probably say it’s a necessary evil. I think this project’s process illustrates that technology blending with creative can produce fundamentally better insights.
